Faits

  • One of the most unique skyscrapers ever demolished in Chicago. The profile was like a fairy tale castle, with sharp gables on the two street sides flanking a steep turret at the corner with a witch's hat roof.
  • The first 3 floors were of rusticated stone, with an arched entrance on Dearborn under a sharply pointed Gothic frame.
  • The northern section of the Dirksen Federal Building currently occupies this site.
  • This was the first building in the Western Hemisphere to use Roman bricks - a type whose color and long, narrow shape match the bricks of ancient Rome.
