Faits

  • This building replaced the United Building.
  • The Roosevelt Building was designed by the firm co-founded by the grandfather of science fiction writer Kurt Vonnegut.
  • The Artsgarden Tower proposal was canceled in Summer 2002, and replaced with the Conrad Indianapolis & Residences.
  • This is the tallest building in Indianapolis to have been demolished not due to a fire or structural problem.
  • In the summer of 2000, the city requested proposals from developers for redevelopment of this parcel. These included the Artsgarden Tower (25-floor mixed-use), a 22-floor luxury hotel, a 14-floor office building, and a 9-floor mid-priced hotel.
  • The narrow Roosevelt Building (only 30 feet wide) was imploded on August 12, 1990 to make way for a Saks Fifth Avenue store as part of the Circle Centre. Saks eventually pulled out of the project, the mall was shifted to the south, and this corner has remained empty throughout the 1990s.
