Faits

  • Excavation for the hotel began in October of 1929. Work on the steel caisson foundation commenced on December 1, 1929.
  • Construction was delayed until final financing arrangements were completed in the spring of 1931. Work on the steel frame was started in April 1931.
  • The Biltmore was topped out on August 29, 1931.
  • The hotel stood in the way of a $39 million urban renewal plan to construct a cultural and recreational complex.
  • When it was demolished it was the tallest structural steel building ever imploded.
  • The area the hotel occupied is now the site of the Myriad Botanical Gardens.
