lieux de sépulture

  • The internal burial chamber, antechamber and corridors are all located underground, in a complex layout showing signs of several changes in design during construction.
  • Beside the pyramid sit three secondary pyramids: one true pyramid and two step pyramids, which belonged to the royal wives of Menkaure. The complex also includes a funerary temple, a lower temple, the Tomb of Queen Khentkawes and a processionary ramp.
  • The Pyramid of Menkaure is the smallest and most recent of the pyramids at Giza. It was built around 2450BC by Menkaure, fifth king of the Fourth Dynasty.
  • Unlike the two larger pyramids, it was originally covered in granite, with limestone only on the upper two thirds. Some of the original granite casing remains on the norhern side, which now features a vast scar inflicted by previous attempts to locate the entrance.
