  • Originally was to be named Hotel British Columbia.
  • Vancouver's tallest building from 1939-1972.
  • The distinctive green roof is made of oxidized copper.
  • The exterior has carvings of mythological figures such as griffins and flying horses, and parapets embellished with Gothic gargoyles with the interior mainly mahogany, brass and crystal.
  • The Grand Opening was on May 25, 1939.
  • Fully renovated in 1989 and again in 1999.
  • Rushed to completion for the Royal Visit of King George VI and Queen Elizabeth.
  • The $7 million hotel stalled during the depression taking 10 years from start to finish, with no work performed at all for 5 consecutive years.
  • Guest rooms and suites are located on 14 floors.
