Faits

  • Located on the southeast corner of 42nd Street in the heart of Times Square, 6 Times Square (1466 Broadway) is an historic landmark commissioned by Colonel John Jacob Astor and constructed in 1906 as the Knickerbocker Hotel.
  • Converted from hotel to showroom and office use in 1921.
  • Purchased in 2006 by Istithmar, the investment company of the royal family of Dubai, for $300 million; the company plans to restore the building back into an upscale hotel with 250 to 300 rooms.
  • The hotel originally featured a subway entrance.
  • According to some sources, the martini was invented in this hotel.
  • Maxfield Parrish's 30-foot long painting "Old King Cole" hung in the hotel.
  • It is now a premier office and showroom building, renovated in 1980 by Libby, Ross & Whitehouse, who preserved the magnificent classical facade with its mansard crown.
