Faits

  • Developed by the estate of Marshall Field, the famous retail baron whose department store is across the corner to the northwest. Today the store is a Macy's.
  • The lobby leads into a five-story public atrium with several stores inside.
  • Named after Pittsfield, Massachusetts, where Marshall Field got his first job. (See also the Burnham Center, which was originally named after Field's birthplace).
  • The building was owned by the Field Museum of Natural History from the time of its 50th anniversary when Marshall Field III gave the property as a gift, until September 1960 when the museum sold it.
