Faits

  • The visitors' gallery for the trading hall is on the 5th floor, with links to the galleries of larger trading halls in the east annex and the Chicago Board Options Exchange.
  • This is architect Helmut Jahn's second skyscraper in Chicago, after the Xerox Building.
  • The roof is topped by an ornament shaped like the terraced octagonal trading pits inside.
  • The skylit atrium on the 12th floor faces the intact south wall of the older Board of Trade.
  • A two-story central passageway connects the old Chicago Board of Trade with Van Buren Street, and is decorated with green art deco streamlined curves.
  • A painting of Ceres over 3 stories tall was taken from the old trading floor and installed on a steel framework on the floor of the atrium.
  • In 1985 this building won the Best Structure Award from the Structural Engineers Association of Illinois.
