Faits

  • The Temple Building is the most prominent byzantine-style building in the city, featuring a 208-foot tower.
  • Indianapolis has one of the largest collections of large buildings related to freemasonry. Others include the Scottish Rite Cathedral, the Indiana Freemasons' Hall, and the Knights of Pythias Building, Scottish Rite Building, and the Masonic Temple, all demolished. The building at One North Pennsylvania was also built by the Oddfellows.
  • Oscar D. Bohlen was the design architect for the original building. A matching addition to the north by Rubush & Hunter was completed in 1922.
  • The Murat features one of the largest and most popular performance venues in Indianapolis.
  • The west facade sports a massive trompe l'oeil mural, continuing the byzantine architectural themes.
  • A tablet on the south facade reads "A.A.O.N.M.S.", which stands for the Ancient Arabic Order Nobles of the Mystic Shrine.
  • The lavish interior includes the Egyptian Room, modeled after the tomb of King Tutankhamun.
