Faits

  • The building was constructed over an art deco Greyhound Bus Station built in 1940. The depot's steamlined façade can be seen at the north entrance on New York Avenue.
  • The postmodern design pays homage to the art moderne style of the station, so that the lobbies and façades are well integrated.
  • A skylit atrium extends the full height of the building near the south entrance.
  • The rotunda is decorated with murals by John Grazier.
  • A small public museum on antique Greyhound buses is in the north lobby.
  • The Hotel Annapolis previously stood on the south side of this site.
  • The original bus depot was designed by William J. Arrasmith of Louisville.
  • The building gained new prominence after demolition of the Washington Convention Center in 2005. It is visible from many locations to the east across the superblock, which awaits redevelopment.
