Faits

  • The upper two stories were added in the late 1920s.
  • The exterior is sheathed in limestone. The design features a trio of two-story arches at street level and an ornate cornice framed by Classically-styled urns above the fifteenth floor.
  • The interior, featuring a central corridor with an arched, coffered ceiling, is one of the finest from this period in Charlotte.
  • When built, the Johnston Building was the tallest building in Charlotte. It was superceded by the First National Bank Building (112 Tryon Plaza) in 1926.
  • The buidling was named for local businessman Charles Worth Johnston.
  • Constructed atop the site once occupied by the Trust Building.
