Faits

  • This building was the original home of the Ninth District of the Federal Reserve Bank. It moved to a daring new building, now called Marquette Plaza, in the mid-1970s.
  • The building is connected by skyway to the The Westin Minneapolis.
  • The original Cass Gilbert building has been remodeled out of existence. A tower was added in 1955 by Larson & McLaren; the base was remodeled in 1974 by Cerny & Associates with Lawrence Halprin. The facade now appears in the spirit of mid-20th century modernism: articulated by a dense rhythm of light colored pilasters alternating with dark-colored vertical strips of windows.
