Faits

  • The hotel was scheduled to open in June 1989 for the 13th World Festival of Youth and Students, but problems with building methods and materials delayed completion.
  • If this had been completed on schedule, it would have surpassed Swissôtel The Stamford to become the world's tallest hotel, and would have been ranked 7th tallest building in the world.
  • The building reached its full architectural height in 1992, but remained no more than a massive concrete shell until construction resumed in 2008.
  • In July 2011, it was reported that the exterior work was complete. The hotel was planned to open in 2013, but those plans were suspended and the interior remains unfinished.
  • The building was initially listed with a height of 300 meters. The actual height of 330 meters makes it the world's tallest building intended for hotel use.
  • First building outside New York and Chicago with over 100 floors.
  • The pyramid-shaped building has a 75-degree slope.
