Faits

  • The repaired roof was reinflated on January 19, 2007.
  • On May 16, 2008, the B.C. Government announced it would spend $200 million to perform a major overhaul of the stadium, including a retractable roof and interior upgrades, with completion expected by summer 2011.
  • Stadium circumference: 760 metres (2,500 feet).
  • Exhibit space: 247,000 square feet.
  • On May 4, 2010, between 11:00 and 11:28 a.m., the roof was deflated for the last time as crews prepare its dismantling for a new retractable roof.
  • One of the largest air-supported stadiums in the world.
  • Seating capacity is 60,000.
  • The opening and closing ceremonies for the 2010 Winter Olympic Games will be held here.
  • 16 electric powered fans keep the air pressure inside the stadium at a higher level than the air outside.
  • The total thickness of each layer of roof fabric is 1/30 inch and is stronger than steel.
  • Span: 195m X 236m.
  • The roof is 10 acres of fibreglass woven fabric.
  • On January 5, 2007, accidental over-inflation caused a large rip in the roof and the air-supported fabric dome collapsed for the first time since opening.
  • The roof allows more than 20% natural light inside.
