Faits

  • The Walter N. Moore Dry Goods Warehouse formerly stood on this site.
  • This is the tallest residential building in San Francisco.
  • Although referred to as a 60-story building, there is no 13th or 44th levels in that count.
  • An 11-story amenities building, 301 Mission Street, was constructed simultaneously. It is located just to the northeast at Mission and Beale Streets.
  • At the time of completion in 2009, the tower had sunk more than eight inches – which was much more than engineers had anticipated. The developers cited the removal of groundwater as the reason for this excessive sinking.
  • In 2016, it was reported the tower had sunk a total of 16 inches and is tilting six inches to the northwest. The developers contend the construction of a new transit center is to blame, while the transit authority contends an inadequate foundation is to blame.
  • The Millennium's site was excavated 75 feet down and the building constructed over a ten-foot thick concrete slab with 950 14-inch square piles driven roughly 80 feet into the ground.
  • The foundation piles were not drilled down to solid bedrock, which is approximately 250 feet down.
