Structure générale

  • The building is planned as the landmark of Zhengdong New Town, a new deveopment district covering an area of 45 square-kilometers and including a new CBD, residential areas and several giant artificial lakes.
  • The tower is a mixed-use building with offices on the lower floors and a 453-key hotel above.
  • The screens' configuration is calculated so as to reflect indirect daylight into the interior while simultaneously protecting the facade from solar gain.
  • Painted aluminum screens 3-5 stories high are mounted at an outward angle in front of a glass curtain-wall facade.
  • Lighting mounted on the screens allows the building to be dramatically lit up at night.
  • The screens are positioned one to two metres in front of the curtain wall, allowing maintenance staff to wash the windows.
  • A smart control system in the atrium makes use of natural forces to distribute fresh air through the interior.
  • The screens offer varying levels of transparency: looking up from close to the base, the facade appears to be metal; moving away, the screens increasingly open, revealing the glass facade behind.
  • Computer-controlled dimmer switches regulate the light level depending on the amount of illumation from the heliostat: this means the atrium consumes less energy and generates less heat.
  • The atrium's surface finishes were chosen so as to help drive light deep inside.
  • A heliostat is positioned atop the tower, reflecting natural light down through the hotel atrium.
