Faits

  • Construction on Block E, just to the south, including the Graves 601 Hotel, necessitated moving the Shubert Theatre to the site just northeast of the Masonic Temple. A bold renovation scheme will physically unite these buildilngs.
  • The Masonic Temple was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1975.
  • A peaked roof can be seen only from the north and west sides of the building.
  • The former Masonic Temple was renovated in 1979 to provide office space for non-profit arts organizations. It was then renamed the Hennepin Center for the Arts.
  • The building originally featured two 20 foot onion domes, at the corner of Hennepin Avenue & 6th Street and farther up 6th Street at the back facade, but they have been removed.
