Faits

  • At one time, the building held all of the offices for the State of Michigan.
  • A fire in 1951 severely damaged the 7th floor. The cost of remodeling came to $2,939,500.
  • This building is the headquarters of the Michigan State Building Authority, which manages state-owned buildings.
  • The facade consists of mostly cream-colored Amhert Ohio sandstone, but sits atop an 8-feet-tall granite-clad basement level that extends slightly above ground.
  • The building was gutted and restored in 1954, but the 7th floor was so badly damanged it was never rebuilt.
  • Fire Insurance maps indicate this building is 118 feet to the main roof, not including the penthouse.
  • This building was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1984.
