Faits

  • Originally part of a large milling complex, this building was renovated into a luxury hotel in the 1980s. The hotel closed in early 2003 for an anticipated conversion to condominiums.
  • The conversion never got off the ground and the owners defaulted on the property. It was sold again in late 2004 and may be renovated into another hotel property or go through with a condominium conversion.
  • The new developers received approval from the Minneapolis Historic Preservation Commission on 28 June 2005 to widen windows, provide 30 balconies, and to raise the level of the riverside plaza to allow underground parking.
  • The developers originally intended to add 3 floors atop the section along 2nd Street South, which formerly served as the hotel lobby, but these were not built.
