  • The perforated copper facade will change appearance over time as it becomes oxidized.
  • The façade of the building is perforated allowing light to penetrate in the manner of sunlight filtering through a canopy of trees.
  • The building is fabricated from 1,500 tons of concrete, 5,122 tons of structural steel and 2,500 tons of rebar whilst the façade is comprised of 300,000 lbs of glass and 950,000 lbs of copper.
  • The façade exhibits 7,200 copper panels - each one is unique - which are textured with 1,500,000 embossings and represent the largest quantitiy of copper cladding used anywhere on a single building.
  • The M.H. de Young Memorial Museum was designed to house American art from the 17th century through to the present as well as art from the native Americas, Asia and Africa.
  • Panoramic views of San Francisco bay are afforded by a public observation floor.
