In the night of December 1st and December 2nd 1809 the rightmost part of the building collapsed. The initial reconstruction deviated completely from the original.
Over the centuries this building suffered serious havoc, but every time the damage was fixed.
In 1798 in the aftermath of the French Revolution, local gangs managed to set a part of the building on fire as well as destroying much of its archives.
This building replaces a medieval one which was destroyed by fire in 1595.
It was not before 1848 that the building was reconstructed according to original plans.
