  • Each corner of the building features a dome-topped tower, 42.7m tall.
  • The foundations took around 9 months to complete and consumed roughly 35,000 tons of cement concrete.
  • The building is designed to be fire-resistant, employing girders and steel columns which are encased in concrete.
  • The grand staircase is fashioned from grey granite quarried in Dumfrieshire.
  • The ground floor corridors and halls are lined with Calacata marble.
  • The building is constructed from Portland stone.
  • The building is topped by a central, classical dome which sits atop a drum.
  • The building is Grade II Listed.
  • The total cost of construction was around £350,000 at 1907 prices.
  • The Port of Liverpool Building is one of the Three Graces, which form the centrepiece of Liverpool's majestic waterfront. The trio is completed by the Cunard Building (1914-16) and the Royal Liver Building (1908-11).
  • The main riverfront entrance is flanked by two stone statues which represent 'industry' and 'commerce'.
  • On May 3rd 1941, the building was damaged by aerial bombardment.
