Atlanta is the largest city and the capital of the U.S. state of Georgia. One of America’s most prosperous cities, it is also the self-proclaimed capital of the south. Set in the beautiful red-soiled forests at the lower end of the Appalachian Mountains, Atlanta has kept much of its southern grace even while earning a reputation as a modern and progressive city. The skyline is truly unique, consisting of several skylines that stretch in a straight line along Peachtree Street from downtown all the way to the tallest suburban building in the U.S., in Sandy Springs. One of the best viewpoints is from the historic Piedmont Park in Midtown. It is punctuated with the Bank of America Plaza, the tallest building in the southern United States. The city and its suburbs are home to the world headquarters of Coca-Cola, Delta Air Lines, Home Depot, UPS, The Weather Channel, and Turner Broadcasting.
