The present City of Saint-Hyacinthe following the fusion of adjoining municipalities: La Providence, Saint-Joseph and Douville on January 1st, 1976. The Faculté de médecine vétérinaire (Faculty of veterinary medicine) is the branch of the Université de Montréal which is established here. The Saint-Hyacinthe region alone is home to 1,400 farms raising crops and livestock. Known as Innovative and dynamic, the Saint-Hyacinthe Science Park is considered as "National agri-food capital of Quebec" . In 1993, it was the first Canadian city to earn the prestigious induction into the International Association of Science Parks. The fabulous Yamaska River, is cutting across lands and the city core. Situated at 60 km east to Montréal, the area is an interesting mix of rural and urban life.
