Plan

Faits

  • The Riley Towers is a large modern complex in the Chatham Arch neighborhood north of downtown Indianapolis. The original plan called for five 30-story 'crown' towers and eight 16-story 'twin' towers. Only three were completed.
  • Named after "America's Children's Poet" James Whitcomb Riley, a long-term resident of the nearby Lockerbie Square neighborhood. He was Indiana's most famous poet and is widely known for the poem "Little Orphant Annie".
  • This urban-renewal project was modeled in part after Chicago's Sandburg Village.
  • Wilmont Vickrey was the principal designer, while with Perkins & Will. He was a founding member of VOA Associates, Inc. in 1969.
